Fun, go artistic recipe! Made a double batch using ii different cake mixes and found that the mix calling for eggs, water and butter (not oil) broiled better, yeiled a much better looking cone and had less overflow problems. Using 1.75 ounce cones, I got 25 cones from one box of cake mix. I filled them up to but shy of the pinnacle inside line, gently tapped the bottom of the cone to settle the mix and baked them in a cupcake pan with paper liners. The only time I had overflow was when the edge of the cone was broken. If i should overflow to the bottom, I found that if yous accept it out and supervene upon the paper liner, information technology breaks the stream and stops. Just frost the drips, after all ice foam melts! Frosted with canned chocolate fleck icing, the cones wait really accurate! Tip for transporting: Use egg cartons. Cut off the top, then bottoms of each egg holder and you have a "collar" that holds the cones. And then I taped the egg carton collars into a box lid and it made for both easy transport and serving when sitting on a buffet table.

These treats are cute and taste good IF eaten the day they are baked. If made the day earlier serving they are a DISASTER!!! The cones go gooey and soggy the adjacent solar day.
03/13/2004
of class this is a bully recipe expecially for those with children in school (they work with whatsoever occation!). for those of you with "soggy" problems or with not wanting to many for just the family unit, try freezing then before or after in that location iced, then pull out the night before you demand them for school/piece of work, or the forenoon you lot may want them for dessert. this too keeps them tasting fresh baked! try it with all your baked needs. don't exist afraid of the freezer.

These ARE good if you make them right. I patently filled them too full (nearly 3/4 total) and they ended upwardly looking like an avalanche hit them. The concoction rose upwards and spilled out of the cone. I would stick to 1/2 to 2/iii full and DO NOT open up the oven until the time is over. Fifty-fifty then, there are no guarantees. Out of 24, I got nine halfway decent cones to serve.
08/22/2011
To prevent the cones from getting soggy, poke holes on the bottom of it with a fork later baking so the heat can escape.
05/28/2003
This recipe is neat! I brand it oft for my kids to take to school (I fifty-fifty have them to work) and they are ALWAYS a large hit! I frost them and decorate according to the occasion instead of using the chocolate fries. I ever brand them the night before and have never had them become soggy.
07/09/2001
I fabricated and share these with my boyfriend and parents. They all thought they were good and a great idea. I did pretty good as all 24 came out looking right. I did take a bit of a fourth dimension getting the chips to stay on a rounded top! That was not an easy feat and was messy. And please, can anyone suggest a way to ship them so I don't cease up with sprinkles, chocolate all over my auto seats?
06/25/2001
My son admittedly LOVED this. I made information technology for him for his second birthday(a pre-political party party) and his excitement was what a mom lives for. It made his day and mine.
04/02/2004
This receipe is a groovy idea for kids I would use regular frosting instead of choc. chips and I would also put a paper holder under each cone when cooking. I had a problem with some of the cones burning on the bottom
03/29/2001
Keen mode to be able to give kids the cake that they honey, and not as messy as a apparently cake. Simply exist sure that you but fill them 3/4 of the way or you cease upwardly with a block waterfall over the side of the cone.
05/14/2010
Awesome! The box of cones I bought had a like creation establish on the side, withal the baking time and temp were unlike...This recipes' times and temp were meliorate (400 for 15min)..also, I wrapped the bottom of the cones in foil so it would not burn. I highly propose doing this. red velvet cake westward/ vanilla icing (idk if this happens w/ all icings but i used vanilla pillsbury icing in a can, i put my cones in the fridge when they were done and when nosotros took them out to consume them the vanilla got stiff and tasted near like real icecream! It was astonishing, work loved em!!! =)
01/09/2002
Very easy. Pretty neat. No utensils required.
11/03/2011
omg i remember these, me& a friend made these when i was x her 13.im 35 now these are soo easy to make, and the kids thought we were the smartest&the most awesome-est that walked the earth! what i love is there simple&like shooting fish in a barrel to clean up!!!!and inexpensive& you get the best hugs&a grin..they piece of work every-time&asked to proceed making them!! five stars for the retentiveness's & posting!! 10

This was the funnest later-school cooking projection my daughter and I ever had all the same! I but made 8 cones because 1 previous reviewer had mentioned that they get soggy the adjacent day and in that location was no way my family would swallow 24 cones in one night (SO after filling the 8 cones, I made the residual into regular cupcakes). Also, instead of melting the choc chips, I used chocolate frosting, which was a picayune tricky to spread over each one BUT they were very tasty. Looked almost to darn beautiful to swallow. There's only two cones left (and a whole batch of cupcakes) but they were tasty and my girl had a blast! Thank you Sassy for the bang-up, child-friendly idea!!
ten/15/2009
The kids loved these... However, I simply filled mine halfway, then put a big scoop of ice foam on pinnacle instead of just frosting...
09/x/2011
def fill at least 2/3 to 3/4 or you lot dont have anything to frost. Also, cook at 350 for 15-18min or they overcook. tried with batter in cone and batter in cupcake holder with cone on top, by far the concoction directly in cone upright is the nearly moist and comes out perfect!!!! used reg frosting not choc chips, cheers!!
10/09/2011
I was able to make them 12 hrs in advance with no sogginess. Held off on frosting them till a couple hours prior to serving. Cooked at 350 for 25 min. Filled scant quarter cup each and only had ane overflow. They were a hitting and i got asked for the recipe.
04/16/2011
this is a great idea, just the recipe should have very clear instructions to Non overfill the cones! I overfilled my first batch, and it was a disaster! for my 2d effort, I actually broiled the cake in a cake pan, then cut it into pieces to fill the cones. by doing information technology this mode, I was also able to line the inside of each cone with icing. I may attempt baking in the cones over again, simply the other mode works nifty too!
07/29/2000
What a neat idea! These are a winner to send to school and the kids can make them by themselves.
07/09/2011
I made this recipe exactly every bit written and information technology flopped. I read the reviews and in that location was mixed reactions to the cone texture after baking, but I thought I would still try. I baked and iced them on a Friday to have for dejeuner on Saturday. Saturday forenoon all of the cones had gotten mushy and had fallen over creating ane big mess With no time left i had to rush to the shop and buy a replacement dessert kids would enjoy. Information technology was a lot of effort and ingredients so I won't be making this recipe once more. What a disappoinment.
08/30/2008
I didn't listen to the warnings most "Don't make the day before", and went ahead and made 'em belatedly terminal night. Not one complaint almost soggy cones. I didn't even become one - that's how fast they went! I did only fill just a hair over halfway (as last time I made them, I went three/4 and ended up with volcanoes!) - shoot for 2/3 full, because these had flatter tops. Practiced thing I decorated with the FROG CUPCAKES recipe on hither!
04/03/2003
What a neat thought! I fabricated these for my daughter's kindergarten course for her course altogether treat(fabricated the same mean solar day). I followed the proffer of microwaving the chocolate chips to make the "frosting", equally I found that easier than counting out chocolate chips and balancing them on a rounded cake top. As far as transporting them in the car, which is tricky, I was able to notice a cardboard box Merely large enough to agree all the cones upright, and so that none of them cruel over while driving to the schoolhouse.
04/13/2003
Kids loved them. Only note. I put as well much concoction in the first batch of cones and they "overflowed". Suggestion: I fabricated these for my son's birthday. I left them unfrosted. I bought frosting and sprinkles and permit the kids decorate them themselves. They loved information technology. These would be not bad for any occasion. Huge hit!
02/27/2010
If your cones come up out soggy on the bottom use pieces of can foil to help them bake improve. Just wrap the tin foil effectually the bottom half of the cone. I brand these in one case in a while for my kids. They absolutely love them! I usually use a Funfetti block mix and vanilla frosting. Moms dearest them besides!!
11/17/2003
I used this recipe for my girl's birthday political party in second course. Everyone loved them! I used the icing in a tube to create a soft ice-cream affect.
06/04/2009
This was a great treat to take to school for a birthday instead of the usual cupcakes. I made them the night before then frosted that forenoon and had no trouble with soggyness. Kids loved them. I used a triple chocolate cake mix and filled the cones to only beneath the centre band - but had 2 overflow merely they were still very usable and all had nice mounded tops.
06/14/2008
Constitute this brilliant, the topping I used was 50g butter 50g gilded syrup melt together in a pan add 100g icing saccharide and trounce into smooth paste. If you dip the cones into the topping it runs down the cone to give the appearance of a melting icecream.
08/25/2010
I made them using the mini cones (60). Cake cooks so moist in the cones and the kids and adults thought they were so cute!
02/25/2001
great for kid parties
ten/31/2004
I made these for my daughters birthday party at school. The teachers thought they were great (no mess, no fuss). I frosted them rather than doing the chocolate thing.
07/31/2010
These are ambrosial fun treats for the kids. However, DO Not follow the baking instructions in the directions. Follow the cake box directions for cup cakes. Fill up the cone about 3/iv of the fashion with the block concoction to ensure you go a nice rounded mound on top of the cones. Once y'all ice them they await like water ice cream cones. I used chocolate cake and vanilla frosting then I put star shaped sprinkles on top of mine. The kids loved them. Very piece of cake and fun to make.
08/31/2003
Fantabulous kid-friendly recipe. Easy to make. I remember these from when I was a kid. Yum!
02/09/2012
Hither is the aligning that I fabricated: I cooked the cupcakes in cupcake pans, cooled, and removed wrappers. I put a portion of icing on the superlative of the cupcake, turned information technology upside downwardly and stuck it to the top of the cone. I then frosted the remaining cupcake that was sticking upwardly, and decorated it. Thus no soggy cone.
11/15/2002
My 6 years old daughter and I had so much fun making this loving cup cakes. We brought it to her grade for her Altogether Celebration!!! The kids loved it!!!
02/04/2003
I made these for treat mean solar day at my daughters kindergarten. The kids loved them!!! I recommend making them the same day as they are going to exist eaten though because the cone tends to get a picayune mushy the adjacent day. I likewise melted the chocolate chips in the microwave and them spread it on similar a frosting, much easier so waiting around for chips to melt! Super easy to brand too!
09/08/2011
My mom used to brand these when I was fiddling, and we always loved them. I used color cones and they were very pretty.
03/14/2012
I good manner to transport these, take a shirt box (top and bottom) and cutting 12 or 24 holes in the pinnacle to fit the cup cakes.
05/31/2003
I fabricated this for my daughter'due south 3rd birthday and we did information technology together. That was the best. We enjoyed the time together. I used set up fabricated icing with colored chips already in it. Much easier!!!
12/23/2002
I fabricated these for my son's 2nd birthday as take habitation treats. They were so beautiful and a very neat thought. They were also very easy to make. And not to messy for little hands to enjoy.
09/06/2000
I took this recipe to the finger food only dance for seniors. It was a striking. Y'all see, even the large kids tin like this too. It was a petty bit of nostalgia for them, and they look and then much like the real thing. They are as well delicious. I inverse the recipe to letting them cook after removing from the oven then dipped them in a butterscotch butter icing. This really madethem await like icecream.
07/09/2004
Good recipe. Great for child's parties. If possible, brand them the day of to avert getting soggy. Send tip: if yous get ice foam from McD's, salvage the cone holders they put them in.
11/24/2009
A fun and easy fashion to brand cupcakes. The kids LOVE it.
01/29/2005
I fabricated these for my son'southward 4th grade class and they didn't become over too well. Most of the kids didn't like them. Sorry :( I even put frosting on some, they still didn't like them.
04/11/2012
First-class!! So easy to brand and frost. Great for classroom treats.
09/sixteen/2011
I needed a very last minute dessert to send to our kids school. This looked quick and piece of cake. I did non employ the semi-sweet chocolate, I used what I had on paw- white frosting with chocolate butter box cake and sprinkles. My 3/quaternary full of batter into the cones, was "too much" and sadly they overflowed while baking, in the muffin tins. I removed the excess block that overflowed + thought that the cho-block stains on the cones would expect awful, but after putting the frosting and sprinkles on they looked fun + yummy anyways! I named them "chocolate explosion cup cone cakes". LOL! Wow..they taste good too! Good bye blistering cups.. hello Cakes In A Cone!
05/07/2009
They're adorable. The merely problem is, it gets kind of soggy in the lesser of the cone (so swallow fairly before long after) and there isn't frosting in the bottom half of the cone which isn't as desirable. Perfect for kids (who don't require added saccharide) but if you'd like, have some extra frosting on hand for when you get to the lesser. Nothing like a double frosted cupcake.
03/06/2010
Crawly and like shooting fish in a barrel recipe! I used strawberry block mix with strawberry icing and multicolored sprinkles!! I followed the advice of wrapping some tin can foil around the bottoms to forestall the soggyness and it worked keen!!
06/06/2005
I made these cupcakes for my niece'south altogether political party and all the kids loved them! Even the grown-ups were commenting on how practiced they tasted and how they really looked similar ice cream cones! I used a funfetti cake mix and decorated with chocolate, vanilla and strawberry frosting and sprinkles. Cheers!
12/05/2005
Great hit with my preschooler, her class & teachers. I used strawberry cake mix, strawberry frosting and sprinkles. I am planning on making this for other events!
03/08/2011
Made this for my daughter'southward v year erstwhile Altogether party. The combination of the block and the cone was manner too dry out. Most of them didn't become eaten, everyone thought they were adorable though.
08/09/2005
Big hit with the preschooler AND high schooler birthday parties!!
08/31/2004
My Mom makes these in jump and decorates them to look like nests with light-green tinted shredded coconut and jellybeans. They always go outset at family parties.
10/eleven/2010
Very beautiful idea. easiest way to bake is to stick them in a cupcake pan. Great for kids partys
02/22/2009
These were and then much fun to make. I followed other reviews and simply filled the cones virtually halfway total. Also, I used differnt kinds of frosting, like strawberry, to be fun. I also used chocolate cake mix since I didn't have yellow. I will be making these again!
06/22/2006
My grandsons & I fabricated these for them to take home for dessert simply of course I let them have i right before their Mom picked them up. LOL I kept waiting for them to annotate on the cones being kinda mushy merely they never did. I call back they are just so cute that they didn't notice. I used chocolate cake mix & frosted them w/ Chocolate Frosting II (from this site)....I made upward 12 cones & made the rest of the concoction into cupcakes. Will make again as long equally the grands eat them.
05/31/2010
I accept made these several times. The beginning time I filled them likewise full and they overflowed. The second time I filled them but about the 2nd line and they came out perfect. I skip the chocolate chips and simply utilise my icing purse to decorate with a swirled tiptop and add sprinkles. Looks just like a cone of soft serve and not almost as messy as a regular cupcake. Always get positive comments on them. I've never had mine go soggy overnight. I just use mini cupcake liners (doubled up) when I bake mine, and they've never burnt. This is a great idea for anything with kids!!!
02/13/2007
I made these with my niece and nosotros had such a adept time, they tasted great besides!
10/27/2008
Very fun and versatile recipe. Y'all can do so many differant things with this recipe, add processed toppings, decorate with block tips, any. The kids love them.
04/04/2003
This was the funnest after-schoolhouse cooking projection my girl and I e'er had yet! I only fabricated 8 cones considering one previous reviewer had mentioned that they go soggy the next day and at that place was no manner my family would eat 24 cones in ane night (SO after filling the 8 cones, I made the rest into regular cupcakes). Also, instead of melting the choc chips, I used chocolate frosting, which was a little tricky to spread over each one BUT they were very tasty. Looked about to darn cute to consume. There'south only 2 cones left (and a whole batch of cupcakes) just they were tasty and my daughter had a smash! Cheers Sassy for the peachy, child-friendly thought!!
03/fourteen/2009
nice and easy care for kids love it
03/02/2011
Not easy to transport!!!
12/04/2008
very cute, but as far as cake goes, they were a bit dry compared to regular cupcakes (with the same cake mix). Definitely needs the "extra moist" mix.
03/02/2011
Non piece of cake to ship!!!
05/ten/2016
these came out amazing! some of you lot noted that they become soggy. withal, after i cooked these i immediatly took a toothpick and poked holes along the sides and bottom of the cone. worked great for us. and just to analyze, the cones did lose their 'crunch' but were not soggy by whatever means. proficient luck next fourth dimension. promise this helps someone. :)
01/26/2009
Made them for my 3 year olds B-day and all the kids loved them! Easy to make and fun to decorate! Non equally messy as plain cupcakes. I liked the combination of textures with the cone and cupcake. Will brand again!
03/19/2012
These were beautiful and the kids had fun making them, but was I the but 1 who had problems with *stale tasting* cups? It could have been the cones I used, merely they came out tasting chewy ... kids pretty much ended up eating the block out of the cone and chunking the residue.
02/eleven/2011
Thank you for sharing the recipe! I baked these for my son and we dear the cakes in a cone!
10/07/2010
Delicious! I made these for my neice'due south birthday party. These are great the first day, merely end upwardly soggy if you save them.
05/03/2008
the cake tasted ok, the cone was soggy. Won't be making these again
06/11/2005
this was practiced....made for my daughters 3rd birthday. We decorated them upward and they looked really prissy, they tasted good, only the kids were less than happy. I think cupcakes would have washed better!
05/11/2004
Great recipe... liked the idea of "make clean children".. hehe... have two of my own.. only how did you send these?

12/18/2015
I used the suggestion of making them like cupcakes & inserting the cone into the concoction & baking them. Be sure cone is straight up & not leaning. Do NOT bake the mean solar day before, equally the cone gets besides soggy.
04/23/2017
Love it and lucas
05/05/2011
I made these for my kids probably 30 years ago. I broiled the cake mix in the cones and then took the cooled cones to our local Dairy Queen and had soft serve ice foam put on tiptop, with sprinkles. It was e'er a big hit with the kids! It was somewhat expensive to add the ice cream, only was worth information technology.
10/02/2015
I will definitely brand these! Thank you for the recipe!
03/05/2014
This recipe is Brilliant! I made these for my daughter's course and all of the kids simply loved it. Thanks for the suggestion to use a egg trounce to travel with them. I had to use every other egg holder count out but information technology did aid. I will definitely be making this again.
03/09/2005
The cupcakes were like shooting fish in a barrel to make and the kids loved them.
08/24/2018
I want to let everyone know that this recipe has stood the test of time. I made this for the first time when my daughter had her 6th birthday back in 1989! It was a big hit so and I see it'due south making a hit these days, too. Information technology's a wonderful recipe to use for whatsoever party, young or old.
01/13/2013
These turned out great
12/11/2016
Super easy and fun thought for cupcakes. I filled halfway upwardly the cone and it rose to only shy of the top of the cone. I didn't add the chocolate fries, they were pretty wobbly without, but I didn't heed. I poked 5 holes at the bottom to let the steam out to keep the cones from getting soggy which was cracking. I used a mini cupcake can which was the perfect size for these cones. Topped with whip cream and sprinkles correct before serving. Would brand again.
